We offer a wide range of single herbs as hydrophilic concentrates, obtained through a special maceration process. These liquid preparations are particularly suitable for children and animals.
Hydrophilic concentrates
Hydrophilic concentrates are concentrated extracts from herbs, typically based on alcohol and water. The alcohol concentration is adjusted depending on the ingredients to be extracted. These concentrates are available in ratios ranging from 1:1 to 1:3. An example of an aqueous extract is tea, which, however, has the drawback that some active ingredients are poorly or not water-soluble at all. Hydrophilic concentrates offer a clear advantage here, as they contain a higher concentration of active components due to the combination of water and alcohol. Additionally, these mixtures are more durable due to the alcohol content and more practical to use.
Tinctures
In Continental Europe, tinctures are often prepared in a ratio of 1:10 (herb). However, Bios offers tinctures at a stronger 1:5 ratio, following the Anglo-Saxon tradition. This stronger concentration is not only more cost-effective but also allows for more precise dosing and is preferred by many users as it involves consuming less alcohol. For instance, Jeremy Ross uses tinctures in a 1:5 ratio in his formulations. All formulations developed by Jeremy Ross are also produced and supplied by our NaturApotheke.
Syrups
Syrups are ideal for carrying liquid extracts and/or volatile oils, often in a 20% liquid extract to simple syrup (Sirupus simplex) ratio. They facilitate easy use and have a shelf life of up to two years. For those needing to avoid sugar, sugar-free syrups are also available.
