Our products include various forms of administration, each offering specific benefits:
Liquid Extracts
Liquid extracts are concentrated herbal extracts, typically using an alcohol and water base. The alcohol concentration is adjusted depending on the specific compounds being extracted. These extracts are available in ratios ranging from 1:1 to 1:3. While tea is an example of a water-based extract, it has the drawback that some compounds are poorly soluble in water. Liquid extracts, on the other hand, offer a clear advantage by containing a higher concentration of active ingredients due to the water-alcohol mixture. Moreover, these mixtures are more stable and have a longer shelf life thanks to the alcohol content, making them more convenient to use.
Tinctures
In Continental Europe, tinctures are often prepared in a ratio of 1:10 (herb). However, Bios offers tinctures at a stronger 1:5 ratio, following the Anglo-Saxon tradition. This stronger concentration is not only more cost-effective but also allows for more precise dosing and is preferred by many users as it involves consuming less alcohol. For instance, Jeremy Ross uses tinctures in a 1:5 ratio in his formulations. All formulations developed by Jeremy Ross are also produced and supplied by our NaturApotheke.
Syrups
Syrups are excellent carriers for liquid extracts and/or volatile oils, typically in a 20% liquid extract to simple syrup (Sirupus simplex) ratio. They make administration particularly easy and have a shelf life of two years. For patients who need to avoid sugar, we also offer sugar-free syrups.
